Explanation

By the end of the lesson, students will understand the importance of acknowledging their surroundings and be able to think more critically about what is happening around them. Students will be able to make connections and deepen understanding of self, world and texts, explore real-world questions, issues, problems, and adapt and apply what they have learned on both a personal and environmental level.

KWL Chart: Students will complete a KWL chart based on the following: What do you already know about environmental protection? What are some ways as citizens you can be more mindful about protecting the environment?

Scavenger Hunt : After having a whole-class discussion about the human footprint on the environment, divide students into pairs. Students are given approximately 25 min to complete the scavenger hunt.

Consolidation: Students return to the classroom and reflect on what they have learned using the Appendix C : Think About It, Write About It reflection sheet.
