True or False Relay Race

Equipment list

  • Pre-made True/False statement cards (curriculum-aligned)

  • Two containers or bins labeled “True” and “False”

  • Stopwatch or timer

Explanation

Students are split into small teams (4–5 students each). Teams line up on one side of the classroom or gym. One student at a time runs, or moves in a manner of their choice, to a central station, reads a statement card, decides if it’s true or false, and places it in the corresponding container. They then run back and tag the next teammate.

Each team has 3 “Ask a Teammate” opportunities to pause and discuss challenging questions quietly. The game ends when all cards are sorted or time runs out.

After the relay, the class reviews a few key statements and corrects any misconceptions together.

Variations

  • Use multiple subjects in one round for interdisciplinary review

  • Include “Explain your answer” cards to deepen critical thinking

  • Add point values to statements (e.g., 2 points for harder questions)

  • Play indoors or outdoors depending on space and weather

Progression

  • Start with basic recall (e.g., true/false vocabulary or facts)

  • Advance to higher-order thinking (cause/effect, analysis)

  • Introduce timed rounds to increase challenge
